Alexandre Desplat (father)

Antonia’s father, Alexandre Desplat, is a famous composer and orchestrator, an Academy Award holder. The actress loves her father deeply and is very proud of him. At the same time, she told in some interviews about the star status of her father, which made some pressure on her. She told in an interview that she “ran away from her parents’ legacy” and started struggling on her own.
Antonia’s father comes from an international family. His mother was Greek, while his father was French. Both met in California, while they were getting an education there. After graduation, both went to Paris, France. There Alexander and his two sisters, Marie-Christine and Rosalinda.
Since his earliest years, he was very interested in music and listened to the great works written by composers from various countries. No wonder he chose music as a career. He played the piano, trumpet, and mostly flute. At first, he became a professional flutist and then started composing music.

Dominique Lemonnier (mother)

Karla’s actress comes from a very creative family. Her mother, Dominique Lemonnier, also known as Solrey, was a popular and well-trained violinist before her retirement in 2015.
Dominique studied violin play and music theory at a Franco-Belgian school. Her talent soon was noticed by the stellar musician Henri Temiank, who invited Lemonnier to the USA.
For many years Antonia’s mother performed on various stages all over the world as an orchestra player and a chamber musician. She met her future husband (and Antonia’s father) in 1986 when both were working as musicians on their first feature film. They are inseparable since then not just as life partners, but also as colleagues. She became her husband’s artistic director and favorite violinist.
Lemonnier passed through a complicated brain surgery in 2010, which influenced the mobility of her left arm. It took her several years to restore her health and continue playing the violin again. Nevertheless, in 2015 she quit that career and focused her mind on videographing and making music for films.

She worked as a filmmaker and music producer in France for several years and then moved to New York to develop her creative skills and get some extra experience. Antonia Desplat gained star status after the release of “Shantaram”, the adventure TV series, created for the Apple TV+ streaming platform. “Shantaram” is based on the book of the same name, written by Gregory David Roberts, an author from Australia. Antonia liked this novel and read it 7 times! She depicted on the small screen one of the brightest Shantaram female characters – Karla Saaranen.
Antonia put lots of effort to understand Karla’s nature. To depict naturally her heroine’s independence, Ms. Desplat spent 9 months apart from her family members. She did everything alone – had dinner, went for walks, and read books in her apartment.
After the release of the Shantaram series in October 2014, Antonia’s face became internationally popular. Probably, that’s her brightest screen work as of 2023, but not the only one. She has been busy in the film industry since 15 years old. Antonia contributed to this industry not just as an actress, but also as a filmmaker and writer.

She wrote a short film “Held for a Moment” and played the main part in it. That work brought her the title of Best Actress at the London Independent Film Awards in 2019.
Currently, she resides in London. There Antonia founded a film production company “Luna Moon Productions”, which creates fashion films, short films, and advertisements.

- Antonia is an extremely private person. She keeps her love life secret, and she hadn’t confirmed any of her affairs yet. Her rumored boyfriend is Edward Japp, a film director, and Luna Moon Productions co-founder. Edward called her “My Greek Goddess” on Instagram one day. They met at The Drama Centre, where both were students.
