Although the younger movie lovers know Blythe just as the mother of the popular actress Gwyneth Paltrow, their mothers and grandmothers remember her as a talented and popular performer, too. She took part in the filming of such shows as “Will & Grace”, “Meet the Parents”, “I’ll See You in My Dreams” and many others. For her great work, she got numerous awards, including two prestigious Primetime Emmy Awards.
Blythe was born into a friendly family of Katharine and Harry Danner. Her father served as a bank executive. She grew up with a brother and a half-brother from her maternal side.
Blythe graduated from George High School and continued studying arts at Bard College. She began her career as an actress with theater productions and in 1972 participated in her first big screen movie, named “To Kill a Clown”. Then she took part in many hit TV series and films, the most successful of which are “Tattingers”, “Patrick Melrose” (miniseries starring Benedict Cumberbatch), “The Last Kiss” (with Zach Braff and Casey Affleck), and many others.
Although her work as an actress has always been important for Blythe Danner and she put lots of effort to develop her talent and improve her skills for new projects, she always had time for family life. For many years she was married to film director and producer Bruce Paltrow and they brought up two gifted kids, one of which is the fabulous actress Gwyneth Paltrow.
Interesting and fun facts
In 2018 she was diagnosed with the same cancer as her late husband. In 2023 the woman has a remission after 3 surgeries. She also used non-traditional methods of treatment, which her famous daughter loves so much.
Even during the pandemic, Blythe remained professionally active. She voiced Sylvia, the grandmother of the main heroine, in the animation series “Ridley Jones”, created by popular kids’ screenwriter Christine Nee.
