Sulayman Chappelle (son with Elaine Chappelle)

He is the oldest son of Elaine and Dave Chappelle. The boy has an Islamic name, which is the Arabic variant of the name “Solomon”. He resides with his father and mother in Yellow Springs, OH.

Dave often mentions Sulayman and other his kids in his performances. He told that traveling with his son Sulayman alone for the first time was the most terrifying experience in his life. He understood that parenting could be stressful from time to time. But he is incredibly proud to be a father.

Like his older brother, Ibrahim also became the hero of his father’s stand-up monologues. In 2017 Dave told in “The Age of Spin” – a Netflix special – the story about Ibrahim and his love for Kevin Hart’s shows. One day he asked his dad to give him $250 to visit Kevin Hart’s concert.  Ibrahim liked hart’s show so much, that Dave felt jealous.

Sanaa Chappelle (daughter with Elaine Chappelle)

The adorable girl, who is 10 years old now, resides with her parents and older siblings in Ohio on the 65-acre farm. The only girl in the Chappelle family, she is doted on by her parents and older siblings. Her mother took her name as a title for her shoe store.

Dave tells that parenting his three kids changed his life for the better and made him more responsible. He began to take his work – stand-up comedy – more seriously.

Sanaa was just 9 years old when she appeared in her first big-screen movie. She acted opposite her father and played his screen daughter in Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut “A Star Is Born”. Although that was a small role, Sanaa’s success can’t be reduced. She acted opposite legendary entertainers, such as Lady Gaga and Sam Elliott. William David Chappelle III (father)

Date of death: July 29, 1998

That very year, when Dave won his first movie role, he lost his father. William was a talented person; he taught music in college and was a professor. Previously to it, he earned his living as a statistician. The man divorced with Yvonne Seon, Dave’s mother, when the future comedy star was just 6. But William remained the inseparable part of Dave’s life – he took his son to his house in Ohio every summer, while the rest of the year the boy spent with his mother in Washington.

William re-married Joan Chappelle after his divorce to Dave’s mother and welcomed two kids with her. Currently, the woman is 79. She runs her own brand “Joan Chappelle Counseling”.

Yvonne Seon (mother)

Dave is not the first prominent figure in his family. His mother, Dr. Yvonne Seon, is celebrated as African American Studies pioneer.

The woman was born in Washington, D.C. and was educated at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. In her young years, she studied politics in the University and once even crossed her ways with Patrice Lumumba, a Congolese leader. She worked by his side till his murder in 1961. After that sad event, the woman moved her way to Union University, where she earned Ph.D. in African and African American Studies. She taught black studies and French in a number of prestigious colleges and universities. She is still teaching in Prince George’s Community College. Dave’s mother lives in Cheverly, MD. She is married.

William Sedar Chappelle (older brother)

Date of birth: August 11, 1972

Sedar is the first son of Yvonne and William David Chappelle and Dave’s older brother. He resides in Yellow Springs, OH with his wife and sons Naseem and Sumayah. Like his brother, he has also converted to Islam. Previously he studied arts at Duke Ellington School.

Felicia Chappelle-Jones (older sister)

Felicia Chappelle is Dave’s older sister. She tries to avoid public attention, but at least one thing about her is known. Dave told in his interview, that Felicia was a chubby girl in her young years, and she suffered from her overweight. But once she visited the concert of the singer Prince. He noticed the girl in the first row and gave her a pick of his guitar. From that moment Felicia felt more confident.

He has two half-siblings – Fatimah Akinyele and Yusuf Abdullah – from his father’s side, too.

Dave Chappelle is an internationally popular stand-up comedian, mostly known due to his work in Chappelle’s Show, which was on air in 2003-2006.

Mr. Chappelle tried his hand as a comedian for the first time at the age of 14. After graduating from school, he moved from Washington, where he resided with his mother, to New York City with a strong intention to make the career in stand-up comedy. At first, he performed at nightclubs, and then played at the Apollo Theatre during amateur night, but he failed and public booed him.

But that didn’t stop the man, and he continued his activity. The young man was noticed by film producers at the tender age of 19, and he won his first role – in the film “Robin Hood: Men In Tights”.

In 2003 he was catapulted to stardom as the co-creator of Chappelle’s Show, which was on air at Comedy Central. Three seasons later he quit his show and returned to his roots – he began to perform as a stand-up comedian again. In addition, he starred in a number of successful films, including “The Nutty Professor”, “You’ve Got Mail” and more recent “A Star Is Born”, directed by Bradley Cooper and featuring Lady Gaga.
