Doug’s father is John Douglas Malone. He spent the major part of his life in Longview, WA. He studied at Mark Morris High School and was the Track and Field local celebrity there. John and Doug’s mother separated when he was a little boy.

Christie was a middle school pupil when he moved to his father’s place in Longview, WA. He attended the same school as his dad and became a basketball star there.

Till now Doug shares a close bond with his father. He congratulates him on each holiday and devotes himself to John’s sweet posts on social media.

John grew up in Longview, WA. He is the son of Mr. Malone and his wife Lucille. John also had a brother Jerry, who passed away in 2010 at the age of 62. Doug was the only son of his mother Norma. But he had several half-siblings from the paternal side. Their exact number is not known. He was especially close with his half-brother William Ayears. They hand out together during Doug’s years in his father’s house in Longview.

He used to play for many NBA teams, including but not limited to Toronto Raptors, Sacramento Kings, and Orlando Magic. The fans call him “the legendary shooting guard” and “the one and the only” Doug Christie. After the end of his professional career, he remained part of the NBA world as a coach and sports commentator.

Douglas Dale Christie was born and raised in Seattle, WA in a multi-racial family. His parents divorced soon after his birth, so Doug was mostly brought up by a single mother Norma. He played street ball in his early years and even then his talent was obvious. Later he moved to his father’s home in Longview, WA. He studied at his father’s former school Mark Morris High and played for the basketball team there. He developed his athletic skills under the supervision of Dave Denny, Mark Morris’s trainer.

Then he came back to Seattle and continued playing basketball at Rainier Beach High School. His coach there noticed Doug’s skills and convinced him to work harder as he had a chance to play for the NBA.

After graduating from Rainier he continued his education at Pepperdine University. He studied sociology at Pepperdine, but obviously, his main activity was playing basketball. He started as a professional basketball player at the Los Angeles Lakers. In general, he played for 7 teams during the years of his career. His professional peak was at Sacramento Kings. He played for this team as a shooting guard and soon Doug became one of the best shooting guards in the NBA. With Christie, the Kings raised their rank in NBA.

He finished his professional basketball career in 2007 after left ankle surgery. He couldn’t recover completely after that. Still, Doug remained part of the basketball industry as a radio host and sports commentator. In 2021 he became the coach assistant for The Sacramento Kings.
