The multi-talented person Shawn Wayans can do a lot – he acts in the films, writes the scripts and produces screen projects. Fans know and love him as Ray from “Scary Movie”, Valentine from “New Blood” and many others.
He was born in Chelsea (New York City borough) in the family of a social worker (mother) and a supermarket manager (father). Shawn’s parents had ten kids, and he was the second youngest child in the family.
Wayans attended the Bayard Rustin High School. Immediately after graduation, he started the career of an actor. Shawn debuted as an occasional pedestrian in the film “I’m Gonna Git You Sucka”, directed by his brother Keenen Ivory Wayans.
In the early 1990s, he won the regular role in the TV show “In Living Color”. Shawn started from the small role of a DJ and then moved to more complex characters in the comedy series. At the set of “In Living Color”, he met lots of talented actors, including Jim Carrey, a famous movie star. Shawn acted on the show in the company of his siblings.
He turned into a celebrity after the release of the comedy “Scary Movie” in the early 2000s. Since then he continues appearing in various movies and TV series and writes scripts to some of them. Among his recent projects, there’s a voice work for the animation series “Animals”.
Interesting and fun facts
He keeps his personal life in secret. Nothing is known about his current relationships. Previously, he was married to a fitness coach, named Ursula. She is a mother of his three kids.
In spite of his deep love for creating new movies and acting on various shows, performing live as a stand-up comedian in front of the audience is his most favorite thing. “I love the rapid response from the viewers”, he explains.
He is a big fan of the video game “Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out”. By the way, this game brought him the first money. He visited a laundry, where the woman, who worked there, used to arrange Punch Out’s competitions between the local boys. Shawn very often became the winner and got a $5 paycheck.
He likes to be a father. His main parenthood rule is to be patient and understanding. He tries to keep his daughters and a son grounded. Shawn tells, he encourages them to have their jobs and makes money since the teens.
